Fabricator – Small Machine Builder & Electronics Integration
Full-time/Part-time
We are looking for a skilled Fabricator with experience in building mechanical elements to design and fabricate complex, creative mechanical and electronic exhibits for our museum environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in metal, wood, foam, and soft goods fabrication, mechanical assembly, and electronics; ensuring high-quality, functional products. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
Collaborate with a team to fabricate and integrate mechanical elements into unique collaborative sculptures made from wood, foam, and/or textiles, using welding, cutting, and machining techniques.
Integrate electronic components such as sensors, wiring, and control systems into a fixture or built item.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate construction and assembly.
Operate various hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment to cut, bend, and shape metal and other materials.
Work with engineers and designers to develop and refine prototypes and improve functionality.
Conduct functional tests on completed assemblies to ensure proper operation.
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues during fabrication and assembly.
Adhere to OSHA safety standards and company policies to maintain a safe work environment.
Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace in an organized and efficient manner.

Responsibilities
5+ years of experience in fabrication, machine building, or related fields.
Experience with line-level and low voltage wiring, microcontrollers, and sensor integration.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
Skilled in using machine tools, such as lathes, mills, and CNC plasma and router equipment (preferred).
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various positions.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with CAD/CAM software and machines, 3D printing, plasma cutting and metal fabrication.
Experience with Arts or Arts Education applications of skill is a plus
Background in mechatronics, microcontrollers, robotics, or automation.
Design experience is ideal, but not required.
